A guided tour  in the palace of Nympheburg – A fairy tale present

The palace of Nymphenburg and the hunting lodge of Amalienburg belong to the treasures of the Bavarian Baroque and Rococo.

The history of the palace of Nymphenburg is also the history of a French princess – Henriette-Adelaide de Savoy-Piedmont. Granddaughter of King Henry IV of France and Mary de Medici, niece of Louis XIII and cousin of the Sun King Louis XIV, Henriette belonged to the highest European nobility at the XVII century. A very good catch for Ferdinand Maria, Elector of Bavaria with whom she will be engaged at the age of 14 before being married by proxy at the age of 15.

A year later she arrived in Munich without knowing either her husband nor her new country. But she was determined to inject a breath of fresh air to the Bavarian court and she brought the baroque arts – painting, music and architecture – in her suitcases.

After hoping and waiting 12 long years for a heir, Henriette-Adelaide gave birth to a boy. Ferdinand- Maria expressed his deep thanks and satisfaction to his wife and offered her a palace !

The palace of Nymphenburg was also the place of birth of Ludwig II, the King of Neuschwanstein !

From April to October 15, the hunting lodge Amalienburg of Empress Amelia invites us to take a stroll through the Nymphenburg park and discover a small Trianon made by the great master of the Bavarian rococo Francois Cuvilliés !
